Showery conditons in the South West to intensify.
The Met Department predicts that the showery conditions in the South West will intensify in the next few days.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and North-western provinces and Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.
Fairly heavy showers above 75mm can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern provinces.
Akuressa, Matara experienced the highest rainfall of 69.5 mm during the window between 08:30 am on Monday (02) to 05:30 am on Tuesday (03).
The Department of Irrigation says that the flood level in the Nilwala River is increasing.
Residents of Akuressa, Malimbada, Athuraliya, Kamburupitiya, and Thihagoda have been warned to be vigilant of the situation.
In the meantime, Director of the Hydrology and Disaster Management Division of the Department of Irrigation S.P.C. Sugeeshwara adds that the minor flood levels in the Attanagalu Oya, Kalu River, and Gin River are receding.
The Disaster Management Centre says that 25,863 people have been affected by the prevailing showery conditions.
Majority of them were reported from the Western province.
The landslide warnings issued to eight districts remain in effect as well.
These include several divisional secretariats in Colombo, Galle, Hambantota, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Matara and Ratnapura.
