Highest number of Covid infected reported from Kalutara district yesterday

The number of infected people reported from the Colombo district in connection with the second wave of corona which started on October 04 last year has exceeded 20,000.

Accordingly, that number is recorded as 20,017.

Also, 10,303 cases of corona second wave have been reported from the Gampaha district, followed by the Kalutara district with 3,854 as the next highest number of cases.

At present 2,236 cases of corona second wave have been reported from Kandy district as well.

Meanwhile, out of the 569 corona infected people identified in the country yesterday, the highest number of 110 cases was reported from the Kalutara district.

Also, 88 infected persons were identified from the Gampaha District and 52 from the Kegalle District yesterday.

However, only 37 cases were reported yesterday from the Colombo district where the highest number of infected were reported so far daily.

It has been confirmed that Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Minister of State Dayasiri Jayasekara and MP Rauf Hakeem have been infected with the corona virus.

Coordinating Secretary to the Prime Minister's Political Affairs Kumarasiri Hettige has also been infected with the corona virus. Therefore, 31 MPs associated with them have been instructed to stay under quarantine.

The Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella who received such instructions addressed Hiru news team and stated that the PCR test that was carried out on him confirmed that he was not infected with the virus.

MP Tissa Attanayake also stated that the PCR test conducted on him confirmed that he was not infected with the corona virus.

Minister S. M. Chandrasena also told Hiru news team that the rapid antigen test carried out on him confirmed that he was not infected.

Meanwhile, when we inquired from the Minister of State Wimalaweera Dissanayake, he stated that the rapid antigen test carried out on him confirmed that he was not infected with Covid 19.

MPs Gayantha Karunathilaka, Thalatha Athukorala and MA Sumanthiran were also found not to be infected with the corona virus according to the results of the PCR tests carried out on them.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath stated that investigations are underway into a person suspected of being infected with the new corona virus strand, which was first identified in Great Britain.

Dr. Sudath Samaraweera, Chief Epidemiologist of the Epidemiology Unit said that steps will be taken to provide health guidance regarding the holding of school sports events.

Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that further operations will be carried out to find those who violate the health guidelines.
