Police operation to reduce motorcycle & three-wheeler accidents

Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana stated that between five and six lives are lost due to motorcycle and three-wheeler accidents that occur on a daily basis.

He noted that in an effort to minimize the loss of life, an inspection operation will be carried out, where the motorcycles islandwide will be inspected, where the motorcycles will be tested for their quality and their running condition.

DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the purpose of the operation is to convince the motorcyclists and three-wheeler drivers to pay more attention to their safety and not inconvenience them.

Meanwhile, eight lives were lost due to road accidents that took place yesterday (30), which included three motorcyclists, two pedestrians and another passenger.

About 8.3 million vehicles are currently registered in the country, of which 56% are motorcycles and 16% are three-wheelers.

The Police Media Spokesman further stated that motorcyclists, pedestrians and three wheelers are the main victims of road accidents
