CCTV, Detectors Installed to Protect Elephants Near Railway Lines
A pilot project to install CCTV cameras on both sides of railway tracks in forested areas has been launched in the Galgamuwa area.
Railways General Manager Dhammika Jayasundara said the initiative aims to prevent wild elephant deaths caused by train collisions.
He added that CCTV cameras and elephant movement detectors will be placed in areas where elephants frequently cross railway tracks.
These systems will alert train drivers in advance to help avoid accidents.
