Sajith To Modernized Free Education in Sri Lanka
Sajith Premadasa, the presidential candidate of Samagi Jana Balavegaya emphasizing the success of India's education system in creating a high-income middle class, expressed his ambition to replicate this success in the Colombo district.
He envisions transforming the district into a hub of knowledge, producing intellectuals and modernizing free education.
He stressed on the importance to implement English language-centered education and introduce information technology and computer science from grade 1 to 13.
He acknowledged the challenges faced during these transformations, citing recent conflicts at Sri Jayewardenepura University, which led to its closure.
Despite opposition, Premadasa reaffirmed his commitment to these educational reforms, which he believes are crucial for the 4.1 million school children in Sri Lanka.
He also stressed the importance of recovering from bankruptcy by promoting exports, particularly IT exports, and establishing IT parks in every constituency to foster a knowledge-centered middle class.
MPremadasa criticized the current political landscape, describing the presidency of Ranil Wickremesinghe and the candidacy of Anura Kumara Dissanayake as driven by jealousy, hatred, and incompetence. He referred to their political alliance as a "political marriage" and predicted its end on the 21st, with the people's support.
