Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning.

Accordingly the MET department predicts, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Eastern and Uva provinces and in Colombo, Gampaha, Puttalam, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi and Polonnaruwa districts.

The Met department requests the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning during thundershowers.

The Met department further said that heavy showers more than 100mm likely in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Meanwhile, landslide warnings have been issued in several districts due to the prevailing showers.

National Building Research Organization said that landslide warnings were issued to several divisional secretariats in Badulla, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala and Ratnapura districts.
