Court Extends Injunction Against Maithripala Sirisena

Colombo District Court Judge Sandun Vithana extended the injunction that was issued preventing former President Maithripala Sirisena from serving as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to May 29.

Court issued the injunction order preventing Sirisena from serving as the SLFP Chairman based on a petition filed by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.

The judge ordered the respondents to file any objections related to the case on May 29.

SLFP Chairman Maithripala Sirisena, Senior Deputy Chairman Nimal Siripala de Silva, and Deputy Chairman Faizer Mustapha are among the respondents named in the case.

In her petition, Kumaratunga claimed that former President Sirisena's appointment as the Chairman of the SLFP was against the SLFP's constitution and that an order be issued to prevent him from serving in that position.
