An underworld gangster was killed in a shootout with law enforcement officers in Ganemulla on Wednesday (20) night.

According to police reports, officers from the special task force were attempting to apprehend a suspect involved in a previous shooting.

During the operation, the suspect opened fire on the officers.

As a result of the exchange of gunfire, the suspect sustained injuries and was rushed to Ragama Hospital.

Unfortunately, the suspect succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead.

The deceased individual has been identified as a 28-year-old resident of Eheliyagoda.

Additionally, an officer from the special task force was also injured during the encounter and received medical attention.

Further investigations by the police have revealed that the deceased suspect was associated with an underworld gang involved in a shooting in the Seeduwa area on the 9th of March
