COVID in Sri Lanka: Nearly 50% of cases yesterday reported from Colombo District

Among the 597 COVID patients that were identified yesterday (31) the highest number of cases were reported from the Colombo District which was 256 patients. The total also included 19 inmates who were diagnosed with virus at the Welikada Prison.

From the Gamapha District 62 COVID patients were identified, including 47 inmates from the Negombo Prison.

Making up the Western Province, 36 COVID patients were identified from the Kalutara District as well.

Since the beginning of the second coronavirus wave from 04 October, Colombo has recorded 18,366 COVID cases, while 9,347 COVID patients were reported from Gampaha and 3,445 COVID patients from Kalutara.

The total number of coronavirus patients in Sri Lanka stands at 43,299, while the recoveries are recorded at 35,329. Another 7,766 patients are still receiving treatment at the hospitals for the infection.

The death toll exceeded 200 and stands at 204 with the five COVID deaths reported yesterday (31).

The first victim was a 72-year-old male from Darga Town who died at the Kalutara General Hospital. The cause of death was identified to be worsening of diabetes with blood poisoning and COVID infection.

A 59-year-old male from Homagama who died at the National Infectious Diseases Hospital. The cause of death was identified to be acute lung infection with a COVID pneumonia.

A 61-year-old female from Colombo 05 who died at the National Infectious Diseases Hospital. The cause of death was identified to be liver infection with COVID pneumonia.

A 46-year-old male from Gallewela who died at the Gallewela District Hospital. The cause of death was identified to be worsening diabetes due to a COVID infection.

A 75-year-old male from Palmadulla who died at the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital. The cause of death was identified to be COVID infection, blood poisoning and lung infection.
