Chicken imports unnecessary - Sri Lanka Association of Animal Production.

The Sri Lanka Association of Animal Production has said that is in unnecessary to import chicken into the country.

The Chairman of the Association of Animal Production Ajith Gunasekara was responding to a statement issued by Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security Nalin Fernando granting approval for the importation of chicken for food industrial purposes.

Gunasekara highlighted that meat production continued even during the coronavirus pandemic and the economic crisis.

He added that although Sri Lanka is experiencing a rise in the cost of production, there is no shortage in the country.

He said there is enough chicken for consumption in Sri Lanka.

But the Trade Minister on Monday (31) said that if the price cannot be controlled, chicken will be imported in the future.
