Water supply disconnected for 90,000+ consumers.
The National Water Supply and Drainage Board is facing significant challenges in collecting outstanding bills and arrears, totaling approximately 8 billion rupees, as of May 2023.
Of the total outstanding amount, Rs. 7.1 billion, is attributed to unpaid domestic water supply bills. Additionally, outstanding arrears of Rs. 32 million from religious places of worship, Rs. 262 million for public water supply, Rs. 15 million rupees from industries, and a sum of Rs. 656 million rupees owed by government institutions in this regard as well.
In response to the financial constraints, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board has disconnected the water supply of 90,617 customers due to non-payment of outstanding bills, while onward legal action has been initiated against 5,277 consumers.
