Four men arrested for shooting Co-Op Insurance Chief.

Sri Lanka Police arrested four people in connection to the shooting of the Chairman of the Co-Operative Insurance Company D. L. Samarawickrama.

Sri Lanka Police said that suspects were aged between 35 & 42, and were residents of Horana, Nebada, and Matara.

The new Chairman of the Co-Operative Insurance Company D. L. Samarawickrama was injured when two unidentified gunmen opened fire at him on 5th June.

Samarawickrama was the Deputy Chairman of the Co-Operative Insurance Company, and he became the Chairman following changes made in the company.

Gunmen opened fire at D. L. Samarawickrama just moments after he stepped out of his residence located down Gemunu Mawatha, in Walpita, Meegoda in order to assume duties as the new Chairman of the Co-Operative Insurance Company.

Sri Lanka Police said a 9 mm pistol was used in the shooting, and four bullets were fired at Samarawickrama. 

Preliminary investigations revealed that two men on a motorcycle had carried out the shooting, and later fled the scene.

62-year-old D. L. Samarawickrama who was injured in the arm was hospitalized for treatment.
