3 Supermarket branches fined for selling expired products
Three branches of a leading supermarket chain have each been fined Rs. 200,000 by the Aluthkade No. 5 Magistrate’s Court for offering expired jelly, menthol, and biscuits for sale.
The fines were imposed on July 30, 2025, after the branches pleaded guilty in three separate cases filed by the Consumer Affairs Authority.
The Authority urged the public to report complaints via hotline 1977.
