Sri Lanka’s Electricity Use Hits New High

Sri Lanka’s annual per capita electricity consumption has exceeded 700 units, marking a significant milestone in the country’s development trajectory, according to Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) spokesperson, Engineer Dhammika Wimalaratne.

This figure reflects a notable increase from 642 units recorded in 2023, and is based on data from the first seven months of 2025.

The rise in electricity usage is being interpreted as a positive indicator of human development, improved living standards, and the country’s ongoing digital transformation.
