Bribery case against former CJ Mohan Peiris withdrawn
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption (CIABOC) has withdrawn a case filed against three individuals, including former Chief Justice Mohan Peiris.
The case was withdrawn after it was taken up for hearing before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today.
Deputy Director of the Commission Subashini Senenayake informed Colombo Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala that the case was being withdrawn due to a technical fault.
The Supreme Court had initially issued an order preventing the case from being taken up for hearing after considering a writ petition filed by the defendants, but had issued an order yesterday allowing it to be taken up for hearing.
However, the Bribery Commission had informed Court that it will withdraw the case due to a technical fault.
A case was filed against the three individuals, including former Chief Justice Mohan Peiris, over a land purchased by the Ceylon Electricity Board between 1st– 10th December 2010.
The Bribery Commission had filed the case at the time over suspicion of malpractices during the purchase of the land.
