Report on Kandy tremors to be completed in four days
The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau stated that a full report will be prepared within the next four days regarding the recent tremors experienced in the Kandy area.
Accordingly, the Director-General of the Bureau, Engineer D. Sajjana de Silva stated that they are set to arrive at a preliminary conclusion regarding the recent events.
The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau stated that investigations are being carried out into the tremors that occurred in several areas in Kandy on 05 December.
Residents of the area stated that several small tremors were experienced in several areas between 05:00 p.m. and 08:00 p.m. on 05 December. However, these tremors were not recorded in the seismographs of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau
Meanwhile, Minister C.B. Speaking to the media in Kandy yesterday (06), said that a final conclusion could be reached after obtaining a proper report on the events.
The last tremor in these areas was reported at 05:42 am on 04 December. It was recorded at a number less than 2 on the Richter scale. Seven earthquakes have been reported from several places in the Kandy area from 29 August to the day before yesterday.
The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau said tremors were reported four times on 29 August, once on 02 September and another instance on 18 November. A committee was appointed to probe the tremors when they occurred previously.
