Standard guide issued on disposal of COVID bodies
Undersigned by Director General of Health Services, Asela Gunawardena, the Ministry of Health has issued a standard guide on autopsy and disposal of bodies that are infected with COVID-19.
Based on the individual request of the next of kin of the deceased, the body will be cremated or buried and it must be carried out within 24 hours after the documents pertaining to the release of the corpse by the appointed authority were issued.
The body should not be handed to the relatives and should not be washed or embalmed.
Meanwhile, unidentified or unclaimed bodies will be cremated at the expense of the Government.
