Govt to Import 2,000 Cabs to Address Vehicle Shortage in State Institutions

The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has announced plans to import 2,000 cabs to address the long-standing vehicle shortage in state institutions.

Minister Dr. Chandana Abeyratne stated that some government departments have not received new vehicles in nearly 15 years, resulting in significant difficulties for officials, particularly those involved in field duties.

The decision to import the vehicles was made following instructions from the President, after a thorough review of the logistical challenges faced by public sector institutions.

Dr. Abeyratne emphasized that priority will be given to Divisional Secretariats.
