In the last 24 hours, nine persons were arrested for not wearing face masks and for not maintaining social distance. Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the total number of persons arrested for the offenses from October 30 to date is 2,734.
He stated that nearly 2,600 of those suspects have been charged in court.
Meanwhile, the Police Spokesperson said that the people in the isolated areas should abide by the quarantine laws. He points out that those areas can be liberated from isolation only if the number of infected people is reduced.
Meanwhile, he also stated that from tomorrow (25), an operation will be launched to direct school bus drivers and their assistants to rapid antigen tests. He added that the support of all is expected for this move.
Even today, operations are being carried out in the Western Province to find out whether the quarantine laws of public and private institutions are being followed.
DIG Ajith Rohana said that rapid investigations are being carried out on people in public places including Galle Face, passengers on buses leaving the Western Province, fishmongers as well as vegetable stalls and weekly market vendors.
