Hartal underway in the North-East
A hartal is currently underway in the North-East today.
All shops and schools were closed in the Jaffna Town and other areas in the North- East due to the hartal.
The hartal is reportedly being staged to protest against the Government’s actions to prevent the rights of Tamils to remember those who had lost their lives in the war, including former LTTE member Thilleepan.
Thileepan died on 26th September 1987 while staging a hunger strike calling on the Indian Government to honour five pledges made to the Tamils during the civil war in Sri Lanka.
Jaffna was paralyzed against the government blocking the rights of Tamils to remembrance. Schools are not running either. #NorthEastHartal pic.twitter.com/SsI288AYYx— Pragas Gnanapragasam (@PragasGnanam) September 28, 2020
