LONG-DISTANCE TRAINS TO RESUME OPERATIONS

With the resumption of long-distance train services from the 18th of January, the ticket reservation service is available from Tuesday (Jan. 12), the Department of Railways said.

The long-distance train services will resume operation in strict adherence to COVID-19 health and safety measures; thereby, trading activities and begging on railway stations as well as on trains will be strictly prohibited, Dilantha Fernando, the General Manager of Railways said on Tuesday (Jan. 12).

According to the Railway Department, the following long-distance trains are among those that will resume operations:
– Yal-Devi from Mount Lavinia to Kankesanthurai
– Uththara-Devi from Colombo to Kankesanthurai
– Podi-menike from Colombo Fort to Badulla
– Train operating from Colombo Fort to Kandy
– Train operating from Maradana to Beliatta
– Train operating from Colombo to Matara

All daily trains will operate as usual starting from 25th January, the Railway Department further announced on Tuesday (Jan. 12).

Several train services that were suspended due to the COVID-19 situation, also resumed operations today (Jan. 12).
