Govt to purchase 300,000MT paddy during Maha season
Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage stated that 848,000 farmers have cultivated 1,671,000 acres of paddy for the year 2020, with the expectation of a 2.8 million metric tonne harvest.
The Government has focused their attention to purchase 300,000 metric tonnes of paddy from 370,000 farmers residing in Ampara, Batticaloa, Kilinochchi and other areas.
Following the Cabinet approval, the paddy will be purchased the the prices of standard Nadu at Rs. 50 per kilogram, standard Samba at Rs. 52 per kilogram, Nadu with moisture at Rs. 44 and Samba with moisture at Rs. 46.
The first purchase of paddy will take place in the Ampara District in the month January
