25 Military District Coordinators for Covid Control : GMOA writes to Health Minister over confusion

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has called on the Health Minister to define the tasks designated to the Army officers appointed to coordinate COVID-19 control activities at district level.

25 Military officers were appointed as Chief Coordinating Officers to all districts to manage the operations to control the spread of the coronavirus on the recommendations of Army Commander General Shavendra Silva, and were awarded letters of appointment on 31 December, 2020.

The GMOA pointed out that the Health Services Director General should be the authority in implementing health protocols according to the Quarantine Act.

It further said the unclear role of the newly appointed Military personnel has caused confusion with regard to the implementation of health protocols of COVID-19 among health workers of the Associations Branch Unions at the district and Provincial –level. (NewsWire)
