Govt grants 27.7 KM tunnel construction project to Chinese firm
The China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd has been awarded the contract to construct a tunnel as part of the 95.86 km North Central Great Canal Project.
The Company will construct a 27.7 km long tunnel from Koduruwawa to Namalpura via the conserved forests and sanctuaries in Girithale and Hurulu as a package of the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Programme, which has been is implemented under the funds of the Asian Development Bank.
The cabinet of Ministers said the China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd was selected from among international competitive bids invited to select a suitable contractor.
The cabinet approved a proposal presented by the Minister of irrigation to award the construction contract to the Chinese company after it was recommended by the Standing Committee on Procurement.
