Kasun Wellahewa Appointed Acting Buddhist Affairs Commissioner

Premasiri Rathnayake has been removed from his position as Commissioner General Of Buddhist Affairs, following a Cabinet resolution.

Deputy Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Gamagedara Dissanayake, confirmed that the decision was taken due to Rathnayake's alleged failure to fulfill his official responsibilities.

Premasiri Rathnayake was appointed to the role in January 2024.

The Deputy Minister added, that his removal also comes in light of previous allegations leveled against him.

Accordingly, Kasun Wellahewa has been appointed as the Acting Commissioner of Buddhist Affairs with immediate effect.
