Doctor arrested for shooting student with air rifle over tennis ball row in Pannipitiya
A 46-year-old man has been arrested on charges of shooting a school student with an air rifle in Pannipitiya.
The Police said that the man, who is a doctor, had shot the 17-year-old boy with an air rifle following an argument last afternoon.
The boy who had been playing cricket at grounds of the Erravila Dharmapala Vidyalaya is said to have entered the man’s premises after the tennis ball had fallen inside.
An argument had ensued thereafter, following which the suspect had shot the boy with an air rifle, injuring the teenager.
The Police said the boy was admitted to hospital, while the man was arrested and the air rifle used in the shootout was taken into Police custody.
The suspect who is a resident of Pannipitiya will be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court today.
