Over 8,700 recoveries from Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda Covid-19 cluster so far

Sri Lanka has registered 401 positive cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday (November 17), says the National Operation Centre for Prevention of Covid-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

Three of them were identified as seafarers who arrived from foreign countries and the remaining 398 are locally-detected infections linked to the Peliyagoda fish market.

According to the NOCPCO, 201 of these local positive cases were reported within Colombo District, while Gampaha and Kalutara districts confirmed 82 and 32 cases, respectively.

With the new development, the total number of coronavirus patients reported from the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster reached 14,564. Positive cases from the Minuwangoda apparel factory cluster stands at 3,059, however, the Peliyagoda fish market cluster continues to grow with a current total of 11,505.

Reports revealed that 8,785 coronavirus patients linked to this dual cluster have made complete recoveries so far.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka surpassed another grim milestone in its Covid-19 figures yesterday when the confirmed positive cases tally hit 18,074.

Health Ministry’s data showed that 12,209 of them have regained health while 5,799 active cases continue to be under medical care.

The death toll from Covid-19 meanwhile climbed to 66 yesterday, as five persons fell victim to the virus.
