President Calls for Urgent Fix to Medicine Supply Chain

A high-level discussion on improving the efficiency of medicine supply was held at the Presidential Secretariat, chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Deputy Minister Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni, and senior officials from the Ministry of Health.

The discussion focused on reviewing the current procurement and distribution systems for medicines. The President instructed officials to streamline the process to ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential medicines to the public, eliminating delays and shortages.

Attention was drawn to existing weaknesses in the procurement and distribution mechanisms. The President directed officials to take immediate action to resolve medicine shortages reported in certain hospitals and emphasized the need to prevent such issues from recurring.

He further noted that the Treasury has already allocated the necessary funds for hospital medicine procurement and stressed the importance of collective responsibility in delivering high-quality healthcare services to the people.
