Met. Dept. issues advisory for heavy showers, gusty winds & rough seas
The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for heavy showers, strong winds and rough sea advisory for southern and south-western parts of the island.
Accordingly, showers or thundershowers are expected in the sea areas extending from Beruwala to Hambantota to via Galle due to the active cloudiness in the sea area to the southern and south-western areas.
The possibility for heavy showers or thundershowers and sudden roughness, associated with a sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80 kmph) in the above given deep-sea areas is high.
Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard in the above sea areas.
Land areas:
Cloudy skies can be expected over the island and showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Uva provinces.
Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere, particularly in the afternoon or night.
Fairly heavy showers about 75 mm can be expected at some places in Northern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts.
The Met. Department has requested the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
