Colombo businessman nabbed with Gold in Katunayake.
Customer spokesman Sudatta Silva said that a local businessman was arrested at the Katunayake Airport attempting to to smuggle gold weighing nearly 2kg and worth Rs. 43 million into the country.
The suspect had arrived by Emirates flight EK-650 to Karunayaka Airport on Thursday (18) morning.
Customs officials have detected the stock of gold concealed in the passenger’s luggage. Initial investigations revealed that the 35-year-old businessman was a frequent overseas traveller and a resident of Colombo.
Following formal investigations, the gold found was confiscated and the businessman was fined a sum of Rs. 1.2 million, the custom spokesman further said.
