Committee appointed to examine proposal for intermediate grade for doctors

A six-member committee has been appointed to study the proposal to establish an intermediate grade for medical officers and submit recommendations.

The committee was appointed by Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, on the instructions of Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.

Deputy Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni, has been appointed as the Chairman of the committee.

Dr. Amila Suranga has been appointed as the Secretary, while Dr. W.K. Wickramasinghe, Dr. Saminda Samarakoon, Senior Professor H.D.N.P. Opatha, and Senior Professor Dilip de Silva are the other members.  

The committee is tasked with conducting a comprehensive study on defining the proposed intermediate grade, identifying the medical specialties to be included, the procedure for selecting medical officers for the relevant fields, the duration of their service, the benefits they would be entitled to, and the transfer process.

The committee has also been instructed to obtain views and proposals from relevant professional colleges and other stakeholders and submit its recommendations to the Ministry of Health and Mass Media within one month.
