30 deaths reported from the second COVID wave in Sri Lanka

The total number of COVID deaths reported in the country has increased to 41 with the five deaths reported yesterday (10).

The fifth death reported has been of a 48-year-old resident of Ragama, who had died at his home. The postmortem examination at the Ragama Hospital identified him as a coronavirus infected person.

The Department of Government Information announced that the death had occurred as his long-standing cancer illness had aggravated due to the coronavirus infection.

During the first five-weeks of the emergence of the second wave of the coronavirus, 30 deaths have been reported.

With the 430 new COVID-19 patients reported yesterday (10), the total number of patients reported in the country increased to 14,715.

The Government Information Department announced that all the 430 reported cases have been associates of the Peliyagoda fish market COVID cluster.

Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon stated that three quarantine centers have been set up in Colombo-North, Colomb-Central and Colombo-South police divisions for police officers affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, 401 Sri Lankans who had travelled overseas for employment arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday (10) night and this (11) morning.

A total of 325 Sri Lankans have arrived in Sri Lanka from the United Arab Emirates, while 76 Sri Lanka Army soldiers who have been deployed for UN peacekeeping efforts in Africa have returned to the country.
