The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory for heavy rain across several parts of Sri Lanka, warning that rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely in some areas.

The advisory, issued at 3 a.m. on September 15, will remain valid until 8:30 a.m. on September 16. The Disaster Management Centre has also published the advisory among its latest emergency warnings.

The warning covers the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Uva provinces, as well as the Batticaloa and Ampara districts.

According to the Meteorology Department, a low-level atmospheric disturbance continues to persist in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, resulting in cloudy conditions and showers or thundershowers at times in the affected areas.

Heavy rainfall has already been recorded in several locations, with Selathalaramaya in Kirindiwela, Gampaha recording 146.5 mm between 8:30 a.m. on September 14 and 3 a.m. on September 15.

Halwathura Estate in Kalutara recorded 123.5 mm, while Gurudiyapotha Tea Factory in Galle received 117 mm. Karandana Tea Factory in Ratnapura recorded 114.5 mm, while rainfall exceeding 100 mm was also reported from locations in Kegalle and Kalutara.

The public has been advised to remain prepared for further heavy rainfall as the unsettled weather conditions continue.
