Case filed in Appeal Court against five SJB members
The Chairman of the Presidential Commission of inquiry probing incidents of Political Victimisation Supreme Court Justice Upali Abeyrathne has stated that a case has been filed with the Court of Appeal against five members of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) for allegedly insulting the Presidential Commission of Investigation (PCoI) probing political victimisation.
The case has been filed against SJB MPs Harin Fernando, Nalin Bandara, J.C Alawathuwala, Mayantha Dissanayake and Sujith Sanjaya Perera.
The Presiding Judge directed the relevant Parliamentarians to appear before the Court of Appeal after receiving a notice from the court stating that cases will be filed under section 10 of the Presidential Commission Act and Article 105(03) of the constitution.
The SJB MPs had been summoned based on the information that they had allegedly made defamatory remarks on the Presidential Commission while speaking to the media after making a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
SJB MPs Harin Fernando, Nalin Bandara, J.C. Alawathuwala, Mayantha Dissanayake and Sujith Sanjaya Perera appeared before the Commission yesterday after being issued a notice by the PCoI.
SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara, former MPs Rajitha Senaratne , P. Harisson and Thalatha Athukorala also appeared before the commission yesterday.
