Health Ministry explains reasons for claiming no Covid Community Spread in Sri Lanka

The latest coronavirus outbreak has not yet reached a community spread, the Chief Epidemiologist of the Ministry of Health Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said.

Dr. Samaraweera explained that all patients identified from across the country thus far are linked to the Minuwangoda or Peliyagoda fish market clusters.

No isolated case has been reported outside of these two key clusters, to be termed as a community spread, he further said.

Dr. Sudath Samaraweera clarified that the current outbreak can only be termed as a community spread if cases are reported outside the two main clusters and should not have any link to it.

The patients detected so far are linked to the two main clusters, and as the clusters are large, it has spread to various areas of the country, he added.
