51,797 metric tonnes of fertilizer distributed for Maha season

Presidential Task Force for Economic Revival and Poverty Alleviation Chairperson, Basil Rajapaksa has instructed that paddy fertilizer for the Maha season must be distributed to the farmers in a timely manner.

Joining the meeting which was held at the Temple Trees recently, he stated that by providing fertilizer and water in a timely manner, the production capacity could be increased in a short period of time.

The fertilizer requirement for 2020 is 78,910 metric tonnes, while out of 214 metric tonnes of fertilizer required for the Maha season, 51,797 metric tonnes have already been distributed among the farmers.

The National Fertilizer Secretariat that stocks are being received for the systematic distribution of the remaining amount.

Basil Rajapaksa stated that the approval for the fertilizer importation required for the 2021 Yala season should be given expeditiously and the quantity allocated for the importation should be given by December.

Out of the total amount of 78,910 metric tonnes of fertilizer required for 2021, 285,504 metric tonnes will be allocated for the Yala season and 423,406 metric tonnes for the Maha season.
