Special Notice from NEC for Local Government Elections Nominations
The National Election Commission has issued an important message for political parties and independent groups planning to submit nominations for the upcoming Local Government Elections.
Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, clarified that only one copy of the correctly and clearly completed nomination form, along with all required attachments, should be submitted to the relevant District Returning Officer within the specified deadline.
To confirm youth candidacy, a certified copy of the birth certificate from an Additional District Registrar is required.
If this is unavailable, an affidavit confirming the candidate’s age, certified by a Justice of the Peace or a Commissioner of Oaths, must be attached to the nomination form.
The acceptance of nominations for the 2025 Local Government Elections will begin next Monday (17).
Chairman of the National Election Commission, R.M.A.L. Ratnayake, also reminded election candidates to avoid any actions that might disrupt GCE Ordinary Level examination candidates, as the exams will commence on the same day.
