Petition Filed Over Rejected Vanni Nomination Papers
A petition has been filed with the Supreme Court seeking to nullify the decision of the District Returning Officer to reject the nomination papers submitted by the Democratic National Alliance for the Vanni District in the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for November 14.
The petition, filed by Attorney-at-Law Sanath Wijewardena on behalf of three members of the party, names the Chairman and members of the Election Commission, as well as the District Returning Officer for Vanni, as respondents.
The petitioners claim that they submitted their nomination papers for the Vanni District to the Returning Officer in accordance with the requirements for contesting the general election.
However, the Returning Officer rejected the nomination papers, citing improper submission.
The petitioners argue that all documents were submitted correctly and that the rejection of their nomination papers is unlawful.
They are seeking a writ order to nullify the decision.
Additionally, the petition requests an interim injunction to suspend the election for the Vanni District scheduled for November 14 until a final decision is made on the petition.
