Sri Lanka Sees Surge in Tourist Arrivals

Sri Lanka is witnessing a resurgence in foreign tourist arrivals, with over 1 million visitors recorded as of July 15, 2024.

Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Lands Somaratne Vidanapathirana pointed out the potential to exceed the tourism benchmarks set in 2018.

According to Vidanapathirana, the figure of 1,095,675 foreign tourists marks a significant recovery for Sri Lanka's tourism sector.

The Secretary highlighted that the tourism industry had previously faced severe setbacks due to the Easter attack, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the subsequent economic crisis.

Despite these challenges, the sector is now showing signs of revival.
