55 Hectares of Forest Damage Due to Recent Fires.
The Department of Forest Conservation has issued a concerning report, revealing that 55 hectares of forest cover have been ravaged by recent forest fires.
These destructive fires, which occurred over the past few weeks, pose a significant threat to Sri Lanka’s delicate ecosystem.
Speaking on the matter, Nishantha Edirisinghe, the Director General of the Department of Forest Conservation, emphasized the severity of the damage.
He stated, that the loss of 55 hectares of forest is not only an environmental tragedy but also a blow to Sri Lanka's biodiversity and natural balance.
In response to this crisis, the Department of Forest Conservation is ready launch a community awareness week and is set to be implemented from the 25th of March.
The goal of this initiative is to educate and engage the public in preventing forest fires.
