Namal Rajapaksa remanded until Sept. 23 in airbus case
Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has been remanded until September 23 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (16), after being produced before the court as a suspect in an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of approximately USD 2 million in connection with the acquisition of Airbus aircraft for SriLankan Airlines.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena issued the order after considering submissions made by Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara, appearing on behalf of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
President’s Counsel Anil Silva, along with other attorneys representing Rajapaksa, also made submissions before the court.
Namal Rajapaksa, who is currently in custody, was produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court for today’s proceedings.
The Magistrate also announced that a decision on Rajapaksa’s bail application will be announced on September 23.
The investigation relates to allegations surrounding the handling of funds in connection with the acquisition of Airbus aircraft by SriLankan Airlines.
