No lockdown for the festive season - Lt. Gen Shavendra Silva
Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head, National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said that there will be no lockdowns imposed during the festive season.
This has been consistent with his repeated assurance that a nation wide lock down would not be required.
However, he points out that lockdowns could be imposed in extreme cases if clusters emerge.
Isolations have been reported at different times in different places based on covid cluster emergence.
Meanwhile, experts point out that there is a threat of the new variant of the coronavirus seen in the UK, South Africa and Australia coming to Sri Lanka with the Airports opening.
Since December for the first 20 days there had been more than 500 patients reported daily, while yesterday for the first time it dipped below 500 cases.
However, there have been no reports regarding the areas currently under lockdown. The Army commander was quoted previously stating that a lockdown decision would be taken after considering the cases reported.
