Deshabandu Tennakoon assumes role of IGP.
Deshabandu Tennakoon has assumed the esteemed position of the 36th Inspector General of Police of Sri Lanka today, with the official ceremony held at the police headquarters.
Tennakoon, an alumnus of Nalanda College, Colombo, embarked on his journey in the police service as an Assistant Superintendent of Police on February 23, 1998.
He was promoted as the Acting Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in November 2019.
Later that year, he was appointed as the Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province.
Notably, Tennakoon previously held several key positions within the police service, demonstrating his commitment to public safety and security.
On November 29th of 2023, Deshabandu Tennakoon assumed the role of Acting Inspector General of Police.
Additionally, Tennakoon is at the forefront of the Yukthiya Operation, a crucial initiative aimed at combating crime and drug trafficking within the country.
