Search intensifies for missing Sri Lankan sailor

Germany's Merchant Marine Secretariat says that a detailed report will be received next week regarding the Sri Lankan who went missing while serving on the MV Sanchuka vessel.

A senior official said that an initial report had been received so far.

Meanwhile, the National Merchant Seamen's Association says that international assistance will be sought to find the missing Sri Lankan.

Its chairman Palitha Athukorala said that the assistance of the International Transport Workers' Federation has also been requested for the cause.

A 21-year-old named Chirath Sandaru went missing while working on Germany's M.V. Sanchuka vessel.

He is a resident of Uduwara in Millaniya and is a old boy of Mahanama College, Colombo.

He had joined the M.V. Sanchuka as a crew member on the 2nd of January 2024.
