Caroline and Chula released on Police bail

Reigning Mrs. World Caroline Jurie and former model Chula Padmendra Kumarapathirana were arrested and released on Police bail by the Cinnamon Gardens Police yesterday (8).

They were ordered to appear before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on 19 April.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said, the arrests were effected according to the complaint filed by Pushpika de Silva, who was crowned Mrs. Sri Lanka recently.

According to her complaint, she won the Mrs Sri Lanka 2020 pageant, and later her crown was forcibly taken away from her causing injuries to her skull.

Cinnamon Gardens Police confirmed that both Jurie and Kumarapathirana were arrested after they appeared at the Police Station to record statements.

The Mrs Sri Lanka 2021 pageant ended in melee when de Silva won the title of Mrs Sri Lanka and moments later her crown was taken away by Mrs World Jurie and placed on the first runner-up, claiming that de Silva was not qualified as she is a divorcee. De Silva refuted this claim.

Meanwhile, Pushpika de Silva, who came out of the Cinnamon Gardens Police Station, had this to say: “I did not want to drag this thing. I wanted to settle it amicably. I told them to seek forgiveness from me by holding a Media briefing. But they did not agree. I suffered a loss of reputation over this incident. I have now suffered from this episode mentally.”

Due to failure to resolve the dispute between the two parties, the case is to be taken up at the Colombo Fort Magistrate Court on 19 April.
