Arabian leopard day : “Catwalk” event held in Colombo

His Excellency the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Sri Lanka, Mr. Khalid bin Hamoud Alkahtani, organized the “Catwalk 2024” event at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo on Saturday morning.

The event commemorated the International Day of the Arabian Leopard, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in June 2023. Participants included senior Ministers, Government Officials, Heads of Missions of Arab countries, media personalities, Embassy officials, and their families.

The event highlighted the endangered status of the Arabian leopard and emphasized the importance of wildlife preservation. Activities included a beach walk and showcasing Colombo’s tourist attractions.

United Nations General Assembly on 12th June 2023 unanimously the resolution called “International Arabian Leopard Day” submitted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and co-sponsored by more than 30 countries, with the aim of highlighting the Arabian leopard as one of the most endangered breeds of big cats (lion, Panthera tigris, mountain lion, jaguar, cheetah, tiger, snow leopard) and highlighting the importance of preserving wildlife and biological diversity, as well as highlighting the efforts of countries that are considered home to the Arabian leopard, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in protecting it through various initiatives that contribute to its survival.
