Sri Lanka Police said a special security program will be implemented in line with the festive season.

Police Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Attorney Nihal Thalduwa said a special security program will also be implemented at churches on Christmas Day.

The Police Spokesperson said the program is being implemented for the safety of those attending Christmas mass.

He said Traffic Police have been deployed along main routes for the safety of the public.

SSP Thalduwa said directives were issued for Traffic Police to inspect vehicles for motor traffic violations, as well as other crimes including the possession of narcotics, upon suspicion.

He added that measures will also be taken to deploy officers at all religious places for the people's safety on New Year's Eve.

The Police Spokesman said if private events are organized for New Year's Eve, the safety of the attendees must be ensured, and Police should be informed in this regard.
