Namal acquitted from Gowers money laundering case
MP Namal Rajapaksa and four other accused persons were acquitted and released from the Gowers Corporation money laundering case.
They faced 11 charges, including their alleged involvement in a financial transaction worth Rs. 30 million, between Gowers Corporate Services (Pvt) Limited and another company.
They were acquitted and released by order of Colombo High Court Judge Nawaratne Marasinghe on Thursday (2).
The High Court Judge noted that the evidence provided by the witnesses for the prosecution cannot be accepted.
He also pointed out that the court does not consider the status of any defendant, and only focuses on the evidence that can prove the charges that have been filed.
