University hostels to be monitored at night.
State Minister of Higher Education Dr. Suren Raghavan said a decision has been reached to check university hostels at night, to prevent incidents of ragging in hostels.
He said the decision was reached as they received information claiming ragging took place in hostels mostly between 12 midnight and 5am.
He added that university security officers and student counselors will be deployed to inspect hostels, and they will be provided with the necessary transportation and vehicles.
A national committee has also been appointed to prevent ragging in universities.
The State Minister said a WhatsApp number was introduced to report ragging incidents and complaints have been received through the WhatsApp line.
He said prompt investigations will be launched regarding every complaint received.
