The number of students who have passed the advanced level examination in Sri Lanka increased by 63%

State Minister of Higher Education Dr. Suren Raghavan says that after four years, the number of students who have passed the advanced level examination in Sri Lanka has increased by 63%.

The State Minister said that due to reasons such as the Easter bombings and the Covid pandemic, higher education had suffered some setbacks.

However, he said that there are not enough physical resources to enroll all the qualified students in universities.

The state minister further said, according to world standards, a university should have one lecturer for every fifteen students.

He added that there is only one lecturer for every thirty students in the state universities of Sri Lanka.

State Minister of Higher Education Dr. Suren Raghavan expressed these views while attending the press briefing held at the Presidential Media Department yesterday.

The State Minister stated that the majority of the students appearing for the A-Level examination appear through the Arts stream and the reason for this is that 2,100 of the 3,000 schools in the country that provide education up to A-level have only the Arts stream in those schools.

The State Minister for Higher Education, Dr. Suren Raghavan said, in the new education reforms, attention has been drawn to creating an education system that will enable eligible students studying in the Arts stream to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree.
